Week 11: Have You Even Asked?

QUESTION
Have you asked God to guide you to deep and reliable friendship? Which guys? How and how often?

STORY
Tom was tired of shallow connections. During a quiet walk, he realized he’d never prayed about friendships. So, he simply asked, “God, who should I pursue?” A name popped into his mind. That simple prayer triggered one of the deepest, most impactful friendships of his life. It wasn’t forced…it was God-led.

EXAMINE SELF
Am I proactive about deep and reliable friendship…have I asked God about it? Or am I just hoping the right guys will magically show up?

SCRIPTURE
“You do not have because you do not ask God.” — James 4:2

QUOTE
“God cares about your friendships more than you do. Ask Him.” — Jeff Kemp

TIP
Ask God to highlight a couple of friends this week who are worth pursuing in deeper, spiritual friendship.

PRAY, CONFESS & REPENT
Father, I confess I’ve tried to figure out friendship on my own. I’ve been passive…guided by convenience. I don’t want to leave You out of my friendships anymore. Jesus, guide me to pursue and build my core friendships. Help me listen and follow Your lead.

COACHING
God is your best guide in building friendship and brotherhood. The world says “network.” Jesus says “show up, ask, listen, encourage.” Let Jesus lead. Friendship built on prayer bears the deepest fruit.

ACTION STEP
Take a 10-minute prayer walk this week. Audibly ask (not too loud! HA): “Father, who are You inviting me to pursue in friendship?” Pay attention to who comes to mind—and to what steps God prompts. Take those steps ASAP.

COMMITMENT
This week, I will pray for God to highlight the right guy—and take action toward that friendship.

HABIT
Start every week with this rhythm, ask God, “How should I encourage my friends, and what important stuff should we talk about?”

TALK & PRAY WITH FRIENDS
Ask a friend: “Have you ever talked to God about your friendships? If so, what did He say? Pray for each other to receive clarity this week.
