QUESTION
How often do you talk with a friend about what’s really going on—your struggles, your relationships (husband, dad, work, God), and your plans?
PARABLE
Mike told his wife, “I’ve got tons of quality friends—maybe a hundred!” She gently asked, “OK… how many of them know what’s going on in your life this past month?” His blank look said it all. “Mike, real friends know each other’s lives—they talk about what matters consistently.”
EXAMINE SELF
Do you wait for friends to reach out? Or do you initiate depth and honesty? Rate yourself on “Reaching Out” (from rarely to frequently)? How about on “Pursuing Depth” (from rarely to frequently)?
CONFESS
I’ve treated friendship as optional. I’ve been passive, not purposeful or consistent.
REPENTANCE
Father God, I don’t want to settle for surface relationships. I want the friendship You designed. Help me initiate, not isolate.
DISCUSS WITH A FRIEND
When have you experienced real, supportive friendship—and what would it look like to build that again?
ACTION STEP
Write your new definition of true friendship—one that includes honesty, presence, and mutual spiritual support.
COMMITMENT
Talk with your wife (or a close friend or mentor) about what you really want friendship to look like.
HABIT
Schedule a weekly live check-in with two friends. Ask: “What’s really going on for you this week?”
COACHING
You’re not alone. You don’t need to be perfect—just consistent. Start showing up.
PRAYER
Jesus, You called me friend. Show me how to walk with my friends like You walked—with honesty, loyalty, and grace.
