Week 12: “Shared Values Allow Strong Bonds”
QUESTION
What values motivate what you seek, what you do, and how you relate to friends?
STORY
Three men joined the same Bible study for very different reasons. One wanted accountability. One wanted belonging. The third just wanted to check a box of “Christian performance.” Over time, their shared…or unshared…values became obvious. The first two grew in friendship, deepened their faith, and began encouraging other men. The third slowly drifted away. Shared values didn’t just shape their growth, they became the glue that held real life and friendship together.
EXAMINE SELF
Do I know what shapes me…and have I shared those core values with my friends?
SCRIPTURE
“Two are better than one, they can help each other succeed. If one falls, one can help the other up. …Standing back-to-back, two can hold off an attack…” — Ecclesiastes 4:9–12
QUOTE
“Values shared are lives aligned.” – Jeff Kemp
TIP
Identify and share your top 3 values as you shape your friendships.
PRAY,CONFESS & REPENT
Lord, I confess drifting and reacting to things without anchoring in my core values. My heart and core friendships need to align with what matters most to You. Help me build my friendships on these core values.
COACHING
Don’t assume shared values, build them intentionally. They’re the foundation of real impact.
ACTION STEP
Write down your 3 most important values. Discuss them with two closest friends. Ask about theirs.
COMMITMENT
This week, I’ll initiate conversation around values with trusted friends.
HABIT
Before you connect with your core friends, remind yourself of your top values. Afterward, do a quick self-review of how your words and the conversation aligned with them.
TALK & PRAY WITH FRIENDS
In your next connection or huddle, ask a core friend: “What values matter most to you—and how do you live them out in friendship and everyday life?” Then pray that God would integrate those into your friendships.
