Week 5: What’s the Source of Friendship?

TIP
Shift your view: friendship isn’t just about fun or support. It’s godly…it’s God-like. It reflects the very nature of God.

SCRIPTURE
Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.’” — Genesis 1:26
It is not good for the man to be alone.” — Genesis 2:18

QUOTE
“Friendship isn’t a luxury—it’s the lifestyle of God Himself, wired into us from creation.” – Jeff Kemp

QUESTION
How do you see and approach friendship? Risky, Optional, a Bonus, or Essential?

PARABLE
In the garden, Adam had perfect access to God—yet God still said, “It is not good for man to be alone.” Even in Eden, friendship was essential. Why?

Because God is friendship at His core. The Father, Son, and Spirit have always existed in perfect love and connection. We were made in God’s relational image—for friendship with Him and with each other.

EXAMINE SELF
Do I treat friendship as a side benefit of life—or as a God-given part of my design?

CONFESSION
In some ways, I’ve minimized the value and design of friendship. I’ve drifted toward doing my life alone.

REPENTANCE
Father, I don’t want to do life alone. I want to stop being independent, both from friendship with You and the intentional friendships you desire for me. Guide me to the core friendships You want me to pursue.

DISCUSS WITH A FRIEND
Do you and I believe and behave like friendship is vital to what God intends for us? What would change if we lived like that?

ACTION STEP
Post this self-coaching phrase in a visible place: “I was created for friendship—with God and the core friends He has for me.”

COMMITMENT
I commit to core friendship as a crucial part of life, not a convenience.

HABIT
Begin your week with a quick prayer of gratitude and God’s best for your 2–3 closest friends. Pray you’ll connect well as core friends this week, and each week. (If it helps, schedule a recurring calendar event.)

COACHING
Don’t wait for friendship to “just happen.” It’s your team identity. It’s the way of Jesus, and His way for you—start making it happen.

PRAYER
God, You designed me to thrive in deep friendship. Help me walk in Your image—connected, known, and encouraging.
