Week 18: The Power of Your Story

QUESTION
Have you shared your story with a key friend or two, either recently or ever?

STORY
When I take men away to Montana on Ski & Soul Huddle Retreats, we have phenomenal skiing, eating, conversations, and toasts to our dads, wives and mentors. But year after year, most guys declare that what they value most was getting to tell their story and hear the stories of a couple other guys.

When Rob shared part of his story with his several friends – his childhood, the ups & downs, and his faith journey of how God met him—the atmosphere changed. Another guy said, “I thought I was the only one with my kind of issues.”

Your story creates connection and gives others permission to go deeper.

EXAMINE SELF
What parts of my story might encourage or free someone else to open up?

SCRIPTURE
“Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—those he redeemed from the hand of the foe.” — Psalm 107:2

QUOTE
Your story is someone else’s survival guide.

TIP
Be real, not rehearsed. Share what you’ve been through and what God has done—even if you’re still a bit messy. Men respect honesty.

PRAY, CONFESS & REPENT
God, I confess I’ve been hesitant to share my story. Help me quit worrying about being impressive—and gain the benefit of being real and known.

COACHING
Vulnerability leads the way. Faithful means honest. It doesn’t mean fixed or finished.

ACTION STEP
Share some of your story with one guy this week—especially a friend or guy who might be struggling.

COMMITMENT
I’ll ask God to give me opportunities and will share my story with someone who may need it this week.

HABIT
Look for regular opportunities to tell parts of your story in everyday conversations.

TALK & PRAY WITH FRIENDS
Ask and answer this question with a friend: What’s one story from your life that shaped you deeply? Initiate sharing and listen to him. Then pray simply that God will bless him.

Bond & Benefit of Sharing Your Story

Most men never talk about their lives beyond the “usual” topics. Sharing the stories of your life takes your friendship to deeper and stronger levels.
